Everyone is in a scramble today! Where should I go to watch?! Do I remember my cousin's HBO login credentials? Can I hook my laptop up to my tv? What's the difference between HBO, HBO GO, and HBO NOW?!
It's okay. Take a deep breath; there are a few options available today. We'll start with the easiest method.
Free Trial of HBO NOW
In an effort to acquire as many new subscribers to their standalone video package as possible, HBO is offering this service for free for 30 days. After that, you automatically start paying their $15/mo fee for access to all of HBO's offerings. It's actually a pretty good deal, considering their wide collection of material. You can cancel before the 30 days is up to pay nothing, though.
To get started, you need access to an Apple device in order to install the app to register. It's a bit backwards, but Apple has partnered with HBO to presumably sell more Apple TVs. I admit that I checked online to see how much the Apple TVs run for. But you don't need any specific hardware once you have an account. You can have your friend with an iPhone register for you if need be. Some people are apparently even going into an Apple store just to sign up.
Here's a less verbose version of what I'm talking about above:
- Download the HBO NOW app on an Apple device
- Register for the free trial of HBO NOW
- (Optional) Set a reminder in your calendar 29 days from now to cancel
- Log in to HBO NOW on your computer
- Watch Khaleesi take the throne
Find an HBO Friend
If you don't want to dabble in HBO's new platform, you can still use the tried and true method of borrowing someone's HBO login info.
- Acquire an HBO GO username and password from a friend
- Log in to HBO GO on your computer
- Watch Tyrion get wine wasted
The difference between HBO GO and HBO NOW is minimal. The main difference is that GO is included with any cable package that has HBO. HBO NOW, on the other hand, is available to anyone willing to pay $15/mo for HBO content without the need for any sort of cable package. People have been wishing for this for ages, and now it's finally a reality.
Actually Pay for HBO
If you are still paying for cable and also have a subscription to HBO, you can just turn on HBO and watch it live! If you have cable without HBO, you should be able to contact your cable provider and get a package deal that includes HBO. Or do it online:
